This is a early 1900 Gulbransen player piano made of Walnut that
I am converting to another MIDI controlled piano using my custom
made solenoid valves.
These are before pictures. This piano was
donated from the original owner. Yes, I said Original! It is in
remarkable condition.
Now its
time for it to be converted to a bigger and better piano that
would give many more years of enjoyment. In this build I decided
to install the MIDI valves first and get the piano up and
running. For the Gulbransen pneumatic stack the solenoids fit
right in to the tracker bar tube holes with a little
modification which includes drilling out the 5/32 hole to 3/16
and grinding off the barb on the valve so it could be inserted
into the hole. I use a little plastic glue when inserting the
valve just for a "piece of mind". We are now offering
these valves to the public.
Contact us for
further questions. Also can be bought in groups like where made
up for the Story & Clark
conversion. They operate on 12volt DC.

Time to disassemble and build

Here
I have stripped the piano, veneered sides and miscellaneous
parts. |

panel. Normally I have a stained glass sliding door here
that has the Roll Frame behind it but in this case the piano
is going to operate solely on MIDI so I'm not installing the
Roll frame. |

Here
the case is basically finished. I just have to strip the
fall board and top lid. |

Next I will stain and attach a new gold
leaf fall board label then spray on around 5 or 6 coats of
Lacquer. |

On
this Piano I filled the grain to get a high gloss finish.
Just look at that shine. |
