Every Mills Violano restoration begins with the whole instrument. The violin mechanism, bowing system, operating controls, roll frame, electrical system, piano action, cabinet, and musical regulation all affect one another. A Violano should not be repaired as a collection of unrelated parts. It has to be restored as a complete musical system.
My approach is to preserve originality wherever practical while returning the instrument to reliable musical performance. Some parts can be cleaned, adjusted, and conserved. Others need careful repair, rebuilding, or replacement when age, wear, prior repairs, or missing material prevent the machine from operating correctly.

Complete Mechanical Evaluation
Before restoration work begins, I evaluate the instrument for originality, missing parts, prior alterations, worn mechanisms, electrical condition, cabinet concerns, and the owner's goals.
